Battle of Kameng commemorated

Imphal, April 04 2014 : Battle of Kameng commemoration programme was held today at Nongren Mayai Leikai Community Hall, Kameng as part of the 70th Anniversary of Battle of Imphal, WW-II, 1944 .

The programme was organised jointly by Manipur Tourism Forum, WW-II Imphal Campaign Foundation, Govt of Manipur and Nongren Mayai Leikai Youth Association.

The commemoration programme today was attended by Pradhan of Nongren Chingnungkok GP, N Mohori Singh and Executive member of Manipur Tourism Forum, Wangkhem Gokul as the chief guest and president respectively.

Francis Boyd and Andrew Boyd�sons of Major John Boyd of the British's 221 Army Ordinance Depot, who fought the battle�and the spouses of Francis and Andrew, Katie and Judy were the guests of honour.

The congregations offered floral tribute to soldiers who lost their lives in the battle.

Relating the accounts of his father's soldier days here, Francis Boyd said that the family holds Manipur dearly in their hearts that they consider themselves sons of the soil.

Khumanthem Modhumangol also recounted his childhood memories of the battle during the programme.
